Diegos Bay
A place born out of our desire for freedom. For many years, during our numerous travels, we searched for a place where we could freely pursue our dreams. It wasn’t about wanting to emigrate; we were looking for a place we could shape ourselves—a place where we could live, build, work, and grow independently.Whether in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, or Panama—we asked everywhere if there was a piece of land for sale...…And suddenly, it all fell into place.Through a friend, the opportunity arose for us to take over this property in Cambutal. Cambutal found us, so to speak. Today, Diego’s Bay is the result of that opportunity—and the result of countless hours of work with our own hands. It’s not perfect, but it’s exactly how we wanted it: a place that can grow slowly alongside us.
Diegos Bay

The Founders of Diegos Bay
This is us, Clemens and Lukas Pitzal—blessed with the good fortune of being born as twins... and probably a little too enthusiastic about creating things ourselves. 🙂
For many years, we were on the road—always searching for good waves and special places. Along the way, we kept asking ourselves the same question: “Could we build our own place somewhere here?” We asked around and searched everywhere.Until Cambutal in Panama came to us. Through a friend, the opportunity suddenly arose to purchase this property in Cambutal. And eventually, the moment came when an idea we’d been mulling over for years turned into a decision: We’re just going to do it.
Easier said than done. With nothing but a suitcase full of tools, we landed in 2023 on a large piece of land with no water and no electricity and began by clearing a path with a machete. After many challenges and even more work, Diego’s Bay is now growing step by step. Not through a grand plan, but through trial and error, learning, and many hours of work with our own hands.
Today, Clemens leads the surf coaching at In The Pocket, and Lukas handles the many projects that need to be organized and decided upon behind the scenes. Together, we continue to develop Diego’s Bay.

Lukas
The person who brought Diego’s Bay to life.Actually, the story of Diego’s Bay began with a single sentence from Lukas.“Let’s do this now.”After years of talking about building our own place, he was the one who took the first step.Without that moment, Diego’s Bay would probably have remained just an idea. His nickname, Diego, has since almost become a character in its own right—a part of this story and the origin of our name.Lukas brings a unique blend of imagination and determination to make things happen. He sees opportunities where others might only see problems. And once an idea is there, he finds a way to make it a reality.Together, we’ve built Diego’s Bay.It took many decisions, a lot of work, and sometimes a bit of improvisation. But that’s exactly what has made this place what it is today.

Clemens
The driving force behind the details.I’ve always been fascinated by understanding things better.
Why does a movement work?
Why does something feel light or heavy?
Why does a small difference sometimes change everything?I’ve been working as a surf coach for over twelve years, and in that time I’ve learned how differently people learn and make progress. My own personal journey eventually led me to the Feldenkrais Method, which fundamentally changed my perspective on movement and learning.Today, I incorporate these experiences into my coaching at In The Pocket.I don’t believe in making people better by giving them as much information as possible.I believe in figuring out together what the next meaningful step is.At Diego’s Bay, I bring this approach to more than just coaching.Even as I build this place, my focus is always on:
Observing.
Understanding.
Improving.
And moving forward.

Lukas

Beobachten.
Verstehen.
Verbessern.
Und weitermachen.

When surfing stops being a matter of chance...
Maybe you know that feeling.
You’re riding a wave when suddenly everything just clicks.
The takeoff.
The bottom turn.
The speed.
Maybe even the best turn of your vacation.
You come back to shore and think:
“This is exactly how I want to surf all the time.”
Two days later, everything feels different again.
That’s exactly where our coaching begins. Why Many Intermediate Surfers Hit a Plateau
After many years as a surf coach, I’ve encountered the same situation time and time again.
It’s not a lack of motivation.
It’s not a lack of effort.
It’s having too many unanswered questions at once.
What was different today?
Why did that wave work?
What should I even work on first?
Many surfers are constantly getting new tips.
But they rarely have enough time to truly understand any of them.

Der Take-off.
Der Bottom Turn.
Der Speed.
Vielleicht sogar der beste Turn deines Urlaubs.
Du kommst zurück ans Ufer und denkst:
"Genau so möchte ich immer surfen."
Zwei Tage später fühlt sich alles wieder anders an.
Genau dort beginnt unser Coaching.Warum viele Intermediate Surfer stagnieren
Was war heute anders?
Who's coaching you

My name is Clemens.
I’ve been working as a surf coach for over twelve years, guiding surfers of all skill levels.
During this time, I’ve had the opportunity to explore many different coaching approaches—including during an internship with Martin Dunn, one of the pioneers of modern surf coaching.
However, my four-year Feldenkrais training had the greatest influence on my coaching style.
There, I learned not only to observe movement but also to understand it better.
That’s why I’m less interested in what a maneuver should look like.
I’m interested in why it works.
And above all, how you can rediscover it for yourself.
I only teach things that I’ve experienced, tried out, and understood myself.
How I coach
I don’t believe in giving as many tips as possible.
I believe in finding the next step.
That’s why we always work on just one clear focus.
Not because the rest isn’t important.
But because learning becomes easier when the signal is stronger than the noise.
After each session, you shouldn’t walk away with ten new ideas.
Just one.
One that you can feel, try out, and gradually make your own.
Because that’s exactly how a good momentum eventually turns into reliability.

Internship with Martin Dunn. Praia Grande, Portugal.

Only what i felt myself, i will pass on.
Wer dich coacht

You’re looking for fewer surfing tips and clearer priorities instead.

You value small groups, honest feedback, and a relaxed atmosphere.
You’re ready to train purposefully—instead of just catching as many waves as possible.
